Bernama TV is the subsidiary of state owned news agency Bernama – a soverign medium which runs under the Ministry of Communication and Multimedia. Bernama abbreviates Berita Nasional Malaysia. The agency owning the channel was founded in 1967 after a legislation made by the Malaysian Parliament. Being under the official news agency of state the channel is often blamed to be pro-government, anti-opposition and less vibrant than private news media of the country.

The typical ingredients of a news channel like general news (local and International), talk shows, current affairs, business, sports, lifestyle and entertainment etc are proportionally tailored to create a brand that assists the Malaysian audiences to develop a sharp insight of what is in and out of the region and around the world.

At beginning the bulletin aired by the channel were carried on Astro AEC, Astro Vaanavil, Astro Prima, Astro Wah Lai Toi and Astro Ria but now all are coalesce to the network. The content broadcasted by the channel is largely in Malay; however, there is a representation of content and programming in Mandarin, Teochew, Tamil, Cantonese and English with small proportions. The news based popular content includes Bernama Today, The Nation, Juranl Bernama, Salam Dari Jakarta, Bernama Today, Hello Malysia and Telecine.
